Materials Science and Engineering Open House

Prospective engineering students and their parents look on to a presentation during the open house at University of Maryland's state of the art Jeong H. Kim Engineering building on October 13. Faculty and staff attempt to attract students to the major by giving tours and demonstrating models.


A presenter shows a piece of ceramic foam to prospective engineering students at the Materials Science and Engineering Open House at the University of Maryland's Jeong H. Kim Engineering building on October 13. The ceramic foam was used on a space shuttle to protect the shuttle from outside heat upon re-entry.

 Materials Science and Engineering Department Chairman Robert Briber demonstrates the science behind magnets in front of the prospective students at the Materials Science and Engineering Open House at the University of Maryland on October 13. Briber demonstrated several experiments using magnets and magnetic fields.
