In front of the Pet Mac Adoption Center in Northwest Washington, D.C., Homeward Trails Animal Rescue hosts an adoption event for citizens around the area to stop by and check out the currently-fostered dogs on March 11, 2012. The adoption process for a new furry companion starts here.

One young girl of the Northwest D.C. area shows particular interest in this labrador retriever-beagle mix named Lexi by appeasing the pup with a much deserved belly rub.

At the end of the day, Lexi is returned to her designated crate inside of her foster parent's van, but there's always a chance that she caught the eye of a prospective adopter.

Assignment 2: Softball game: University of Maryland vs. Kent State, Sunday, March 11th

A banner is hung inside Robert E. Taylor Stadium honoring Maryland Terrapin Sloane Van Meter, who was recognized as the senior of the day.  Van Meter went 2 for 3 on the day with an RBI in the team's 5-0  defeat of Kent State.

Junior Second Baseman Nikki Maier (center) looks into the batter's box after drawing a second inning walk with the bases loaded.  The Terrapins scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Kent State First Baseman Shannon Laughlin (right) looks down to the third base coach to see if she wants her to bunt in the top of the second inning.  Laughlin doubled in her at-bat but was unable to score during the inning.

Assignment 2: WMUC Sports

A large "WMUC" greets those who enter the campus radio station at the University of Maryland, College Park. WMUC has been the campuses' radio station since 1937.

Photo Project #2: Maryland HS Basketball

A player gets a swish during warmups for the Maryland state semifinals for 3A high schools. The state semifinals and finals were hosted at Comcast Center in College Park, Md., from March 8-10.

Joe Craw, left, and Christ Hawkins examine a game program before tip-off of the 3A semifinal between Patterson Highschool of Baltimore and Tuscacora of Loudon county. Craw was at Comcast to cheer on the Patterson Clippers, while Hawkins was on a recruiting trip for Radford University.

Students from Tuscacora Highschool turn their backs to appear uninterested as the starting lineup for Patterson is announced. Ultimately their pre-game antics proved to be little help as Tuscacora lost to Patterson by a score of 70-46.

Introductory Photo Assignment - Hannah Anderson

Margaret Henegar, 80, embraces her grandson Connor Anderson, 15, while her granddaughter Heatherlee Anderson, 18, waits her turn. Coming to Virginia's Hair Salon in Memphis, Tenn., on Feb. 24 for her weekly perm, Henegar didn't expect to see her daughter and grandchildren who drove to Memphis from Edgewater, Md., to surprise Henegar for her 80th birthday.

One of Allison Brice's chickens poses for a picture in its chicken coop. The ten-year-old Pasadena, Md., resident raises more than 30 hens in her backyard, and she sells their eggs to her neighbors. Her mother, Collene Brice, says, "all the neighbors love the eggs. Because they have no antibiotics, they taste different then the ones at the store."

The Davidsonville Athletic Association and South River Youth Athletics' 15 and under boys' basketball teams receive some last minute advice from their coaches during a timeout in the last five minutes of their March 4 game. Davidsonville edged out South River with a final score of 30-28.
