Jane Rouse Volleyball portraits

Jane Rouse, 19, stopped playing volleyball after graduating from Glenelg high school, but hasn't lost her love for the sport.

Jane, a sophomore, lives on Washington quad this year where there is a volleyball net at her disposal, something she is pretty happy about.

Jane sets the ball, the move she says she was best at when she played.

Rouse prepares to spike the ball over the net.

Jane says she didn't even think of playing volleyball in college because she is an engineering major and has little free time.

Casey Kammerle's Portrait Assignment — Zelick Stewartson

Sophomore mechanical engineering major Zelick Stewartson turned down racquetball scholarships at schools such as Florida State and University of Maryland, Baltimore County so he could stay close to home at the University of Maryland, where he now plays racquetball for the club team.

Stewartson stares down at the camera, holding his father's old racquet, which he now uses today.

Stewartson, who plays racquetball with his father every Saturday, eyes up a serve in front of the glass that serves as the rear end of the court.
Stewartson stares through the strings of his favorite racquet.
Stewartson stands at the front wall, demonstrating the size and height of a standard racquetball court.

Vasilia and Maria: Twin teammates

Vasilia and Maria Hangemanole, 19, are twin sisters who have played on the same sports teams since they were five years old. Currently, they play club field hockey together at Towson University. They competed alongside each other for Rockville high school's basketball, soccer, and field hockey teams, and first became teammates in Kindergarten. Extremely close both on and off the field, the Hangemanole twins have really enjoyed the experience, and Vasilia said the last game they play together will be a sad one.

Vasilia's best sport has always been field hockey, while Maria starred on the hardwood. Soccer was the first ball the pair played with, however, and will always have a special place in their heart.

Here, the girls are pictured in positions they aren't used to: Fighting each other for the ball. Except in gym class or when playing with friends, the two have never been on opposite teams.
