Huzzah! I got my FireWire cable! Two JOUR203 Assignments

Here's our in-class interview assignment: If you're looking for a cut, there's one at 3:15, but Brian gave me so much material, I only had to cut once!

And here's my minute-long monologue. It's my horrendous attempt at a Boston accent in a monologue from one of my favorite films, Good Will Hunting.

Personality Portrait Assignment

Sophomore journalism major David Thompson, 19, is a very involved student at Maryland. "Academics count, but what you do outside the classroom and how you impact your campus is as important."

Thompson's faith is very important to him. He spends his summers as a counselor at Camp Hope, a Christian work camp that repairs and renovates homes in western Maryland.

After transferring from Salisbury University this year, Thompson got involved right away at UMTV, the campus television network.

Thompson: "UMTV is a real-world application of what I plan on doing when I graduate. It's experience that cannot be matched in a classroom."

Thompson joked that he loves to play soccer in his free time, if he ever gets any.

Profile Assignment

Danielle Hubka is a junior midfielder on the University of Maryland Women's Soccer team. She has been an important part of the #15 ranked Terrapins this season.

Hailing from Strongsville, Ohio, Hubka has been a starter in the lineup since her freshman year in 2009, where she made the All-ACC Freshman Team.

"I chose Maryland because I love the location, I'm close to family and I loved the team and coaches and the family oriented program," Hubka said. "It's beautiful here."

Hubka has had a total of five game-winning goals during her career at Maryland. With 11 goals and five assists, she has 26 points total in just over two and a half years. In 2010, she was named to the All-ACC Tournament Team.

Hubka and the Terps head to the University of Virginia this weekend for the first round of the ACC Tournament. In their first meeting with the Cavaliers, the Terps were defeated 4-1 in an uncharacteristic loss for the program. (Olivia Wagner)

Personality Portrait- Jasmine EgbireMolen

Tuesday night Maya Fletcher, a sophomore animal science major, begins participating in the first ever Oakland Hall Halloween door-decorating contest. In this photo Fletcher lays out in order for friends to sketch the outline of her body.
Later that same night Fletcher carefully cuts out spooky Halloween shapes to attach to her door. She is also minoring in art and takes great pleasure in participating in the event so she can put her art skills to the test.
Maya decides to finish off her night catching up on television shows she has missed due to class. Maya snuggles her teddy bear closely, she says that it reminds her of home. She also insisted that I include the teddy bear.
Thursday evening Maya pranks her roommate sophomore letters and science major Franklyn Abedi. Franklyn plays a concentration game on Maya's IPhone and is startled by an image of a scary Halloween depiction.
Later that night, when asked to pose, Maya proudly shows of her "Legalize Gay" t-shirt. Maya says the fight for Gay Equality is very near and dear to her because she has many Gay and Lesbian friends.

Samantha Medney - Photos of Arsh

University of Maryland junior Arsh Agarwal enjoys being one of the official Maryland Flying Wizard Turtles photographers. Combining photography and Quidditch makes it hard for Agarwal not to have a smile on his face.

Arsh Agarwal, number 27 for his university's Quidditch team, takes a moment to think about his photography.

With the University of Maryland's Quidditch team practicing on McKeldin Mall, Arsh Agarwal is on scene capturing the action. While Agarwal is taking photographs, the team is scrimmaging and preparing for their game against Johns Hopkins Saturday.

Arsh Agarwal looks over an action shot of The Maryland Flying Wizard Turtles. With the Quidditch World Cup coming up November 12th, Agarwal balances capturing the action through the camera and being a part of it on the pitch.

Biology major Arsh Agarwal faces McKeldin Mall during one of the Maryland Flying Wizard Turtle's practices. While his focus in school is genetics, his out of class passion is photography.

Opera Student Rebecca

Rebecca Goldstein is a Graduate Student studying Opera at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Although Rebecca is a world class singer, she still loves playing the viola, her favorite instrument as a child.

Rebecca practices singing opera at least four hours a day, and often time much more. Training one's voice for the rigors of opera takes years.

Studying pages of music can become frustrating, so Rebecca finds interesting ways to relieve that stress.

All students in the School of Music are required to take, at least, beginner piano classes. Rebecca admits she may not the best pianist, but she practices everyday.
