Lauren Kirkwood - Personality profile

Catherine Tappert, a sophomore at the University of Maryland, organizes a campaign to lower the price of textbooks for college students. Tappert is a member of the organization MaryPIRG, which advocates for many different issues.
Tappert marks the date of MaryPIRG events on a wall calendar in the group's office. She said an important part of her job as campaign organizer is reaching out to students to get more people involved in events like the "Textbook Graveyard," which will be held on McKeldin Mall on Halloween and will educate faculty and students about affordable options for textbooks.

A government and politics and Arabic double major, Tappert said she hopes to apply her experience as an activist on campus to her future career, perhaps with the State Department.
