UMD Homecoming Football Game

Terrapins fans pack Byrd Stadium to watch Maryland the homecoming football game October 20, 2012 at 3:30 p.m.  The Terps face off against the North Carolina State Wolfpack.

Fans find creative ways to show off their Maryland spirit. The theme of Homecoming 2012 is "1,2, Look Back at U."

One fan watches the game from inside a cardboard box. The awkward box stands out amongst a sea of red.

Two friends celebrate in the stands after Maryland scores its first field goal. Maryland ends the first quarter with a three-point lead.

The referee announces a penalty for North Carolina. Minutes later, North Carolina scores its first touch down, taking the lead for the rest of the game.

Just before half time, Maryland quarterback Perry Hills receives an injury to his left knee. Hills sits out the rest of the game and the Terrapins lose yet another quarterback.

The halftime show aims to boost Terp morale after a disappointing first half. The Mighty Sound of Maryland marching band and twirlers from the Maryland Dance Team perform to a mix of songs including the Star Wars theme song.

The first couple thousand students  who arrived at the game received "Terps Don't Cry Wolf" t-shirts. The extra step to boost school spirit unfortunately did not prevent Maryland from losing the game.

North Carolina's defensive end Brian Slay, number 55, hold the ball after a sack. Despite considerable efforts from both Maryland's defense and offense, Terps lose their Homecoming game to the Wolfpack, 20-18.
