Personality Profile: Alec Szparaga

Alec Szparaga, 17, is a junior at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, Maryland. He is a shooting guard on the Vikings Varsity basketball team. His motto is: “it’s all fun and games until you take a footstep onto the court.”

Every single time that Szparaga steps on the court, whether for practices or games, he is looking to improve his play. He begins his informal workouts by running through offense to defense transitions.

Szparaga has played basketball ever since he could walk. His favorite part of basketball is three-point shooting. He takes hundreds of shots a day from all different areas of the court.

While Szparaga usually plays at shooting guard, he also practices calling plays as a point guard. According to Szparaga, “you have got to be ready to play any position, in any situation, at any time, like it’s second nature to you.”

Szparaga ends his informal practices by having a little fun dunking the ball, or in his own words “giving it to the basket”, as he likes to call it.
