Photo Assignment

People sit and stand near Capitol hill on Saturday afternoon for the Million Man March in call for 'Justice or Else.' This year marked the 20th anniversary of the march organized by Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who spoke among many others to call for unity and reform regarding social justice issues.


Unnamed man stands among a small crowd at the Million Man March on the National Mall. He performed a spoken word performance about his own experience as a black man in this country. Several people joined the circle to sing and speak about their own stories and feelings.

Dest'n, age 8, stands next to a cardboard cut-out of President Obama. Dest'n was selling t-shirts around the National Mall that read,'Justice for all?' with his father. According to him he, "made a lot of money so far."
