The Time around Game-Time - UMD Field Hockey Away Trip

Courtney Deena, a junior forward/midfielder for the Maryland Field Hockey team, finishes dressing in her hotel room in New Brunswick, New Jersey prior to game-time for the team against Rutgers on Sun., Oct. 18.

Deena’s cellphone was hooked up to a speaker so she could play music out loud, a pre-game routine for her (and her teammates) to get in the mindset for their game.

The view from Deena’s room that she shared with a teammate on the third floor of the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick.  The hotel was about a ten-minute drive from the Bauer Track and Field/Field Hockey Complex, home of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

She got up to dance for a lot of the waiting time between breakfast in the lobby in the morning and when it was time to pack the bus at 10:30am.  The team had a heart-rate spike early in the morning that consisted of a short jog and dynamic stretching.  Fun, loud music from the app, Spotify, on Deena’s phone served its purpose for her own little heart-rate spike.

Walking down the hallway of the third floor to the elevator from the Room 381.  The team only stayed in the hotel overnight, having left the University of Maryland College Park campus on Saturday at 11 in the morning.  The bus drove directly to the Bauer Track and Field/Field Hockey Complex on Saturday when they arrived in New Brunswick so the team could hold a practice and become familiar with the field.

The Maryland bus, hard to miss because of the big Maryland Terrapin decals on either side of it, parked out front of the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick.  The team sets a time that all of the players and coaches will meet near it to pack all their belongings and equipment in the underneath space of the bus.

The interior of the bus before any of the members of the team got on.

The windscreen that lines the part of the fence near the entrance of the complex.  There are athletic fields neighboring the Bauer Complex, which are home to other Rutgers varsity teams.
