Kappa Alpha Order's Sixth Annual Breastfest of Champions

On Thursday Oct. 9, 2014 at their chapter house, the brothers of Kappa Alpha Order held their sixth annual Breastfest of Champions with the help of the sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha to raise money for Hearts for Cancer, an organization created by an alumnus' family after losing a loved one to breast cancer.

The primary way Breastfest of Champions raises money is through t-shirt sales. If you bought a t-shirt, it was also your ticket into the event and chapters who donated money as cosponsors of the event received the shirts at a discount.
People were encouraged to sign the "Who's Your Champion?' board, honoring those who battled and continue to fight breast cancer.

Beebe Rose and Lexi Brennan, both sophomores, enjoy themselves at the event. Pink tables lined KA's front lawn so that people could sit back and relax as they ate their choice of a hamburger or hotdog.

Breastfest held a raffle with prizes donated by cosponsors and other supporters.  Some of the prizes included RJ Bentley's gift certificates, signed Ravens memorabilia, handmade jewelry, and a Maryland pride basket. There was also a live auction for tickets to the Washington Redskins and Tampa Buccaneers game on Nov. 16.
This is one of two identical hand-painted canvases that were among the raffle items.

Junior Rachel Greenwald honors her grandmother, Brigie Greenwald, who battled the disease and is now cancer free.

Students could purchase the shirts a week before the event. Many wore them wore them around campus days in advance to show their support for the event and its cause.
Eric Laughlin a member of Kappa Alpha Order and Garrett Cusack of Tau Kappa Epsilon performed acoustic covers of songs, entertaining people as they socialized and ate their food.

Corinne McGowan representing Stella and Dot, one of many vendors at the event, encouraged people to consider purchasing some of the company's exquisite pieces at the event because part of the proceeds went towards Breast cancer research.
